R-Relaxation Practices

When stressed, the body often releases hormones such as adrenaline and/or cortisol in order to manage the demands of stress. If these hormones are continually released into one’s system over a prolonged period of time, then negative health consequences can arise. Performing daily relaxation practices such as self-massage, self-reflexology, and stretching can help the body to relax, reduce stress, and relieve any tension.

If you find yourself stressed, perform between 1-3 of these practices for best results:

Self Massage

Self Reflexology

Stretching

E-Expressive Journaling

Oftentimes stress is accompanied by racing thoughts that may be unsupportive for your physical, mental, emotional, and/or spiritual health. If someone doesn’t express and/or transmute their racing thoughts, then they can potentially become negative thought complexes that negatively affect their health and functioning. By writing down your thoughts and feelings in response to a stressful situation, you give yourself a mental outlet for releasing that stress and emotional tension.

If you find yourself stressed, practice expressive journaling to give your mind a mental outlet to express it’s thoughts and emotions:

M-Meditation

Meditation is an ancient mental practice designed for the purpose of quieting and stilling the mind, to allow for the free flow of energy and consciousness. Practicing meditation helps to reduce stress, increase focus, increase clarity, and increase emotional balance. Practicing daily meditation before, during, and/or after stressful or demanding situations is the key to managing and overcoming stress.

E-Express Gratitude

Gratitude is the art and practice of expressing thankfulness and appreciation for all you have in your life. By practicing gratitude for all you have physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, socially, and materially, you create positive thoughts, emotions, and mental patterns within yourself. The practice of gratitude empowers someone to zoom out from their current perspective, to recognize all that is positive within and around them.

If you find yourself stressed and negative thoughts or emotions begin to arise, practice expressing gratitude out loud and/or in a written form:

D-Daily Breathwork (Pranayama

“Pranayama is a collection of breathing exercises developed by the ancient yogis for purification, mental focus rejuvenation, and healing. Prana translates into “life force energy,” and Yama translates into “control or mastery of.”

“When your prana flow or energy channels are blocked or restricted, you may experience a lack of focus and negative emotions like anxiety, fear, worry, tension, depression, anger, and grief. When your prana or energy channels are open and flowing freely and smoothly the mind becomes calm, focused, happy, positive, and enthusiastic. Thus, through the skillful and conscious use of our breathing, we can affect and regulate our emotional states.”

If you find yourself stressed, and negative thoughts or emotions begin to arise, practice performing breathwork (pranayama):
