Spreading Love and Compassion on Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day is the holiday celebrating the power of love and romance in our lives. Although Valentine’s Day holds a romantic tone, everyone can celebrate the holiday and the different types of love. Spreading unconditional love and compassion is the spirit of Valentine’s Day.

Through spreading love and compassion to ourselves and others, we all heal, become empowered, and become united by a higher force (love). Spreading unconditional love and compassion on Valentine’s Day means practicing self-love, love for others, and love for life. Although love is celebrated specifically on Valentine’s Day (2/14), celebrating love is lifelong, and can be celebrated and shared year-round.

What are the different kinds of love that can be celebrated on Valentine’s Day?

  • Self-Love: love for one’s self (physical, mental, emotional, spiritual)

  • Familial Love: love for one’s family members (ex. parent/siblings/children/extended family)

  • Romantic Love: love for one’s romantic partner

  • Friendship Love: love for one’s friends

  • Universal Love: love for all of humanity and life

Here are some creative tips for spreading Love and Compassion on Valentine’s Day:

P-Positive Words, Emotions, Actions, and Decisions

Positivity is an infectious force and consciousness that uplifts, inspires, and empowers oneself and others. Practicing positivity means choosing higher consciousness thoughts, emotions, actions, and decisions. By being a positive person and extending that positivity unto others, you increase the amount of love people feel.

Practice: Practice spreading Positive Words and Position Emotions to yourself and others, while performing Positive Actions and Positive Decisions to uplift and empower others.

R-Reciprocate Love

Love reciprocates and is equal exchange. Practicing equal exchange with others ensures that they feel more loved, appreciated, and nurtured. Reciprocating love happens through exchanging the equal balance of time, energy, and effort in the relationship.

  • Reciprocating Time: spending an equal and balanced amount of time (presence) with someone.

  • Reciprocating Energy: spending an equal and balanced amount of energy with someone in thought, emotion, and action.

  • Reciprocating Effort: spending an equal and balanced amount of effort in the relationship.

E-Express Love

Expressing love and compassion begins with expressing love and compassion towards yourself, and then others. Expressing love and compassion happens through self-care and self-empowerment on a physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual level. As you practice self-care and self-empowerment for yourself, you then have the ability to generously spread compassion and love to others.

Practice: Practice Self-Care and Self-Empowerment on a daily basis to be able to feel and express greater love and compassion.

A-Appreciate Yourself and Others

Appreciation is an essential element of love which means acknowledging yourself and others. Appreciating both yourself and others opens up gateways to experiencing greater love.

Practice: Practice Self-Appreciation and Appreciating Others

D-Devote Yourself To Loving

Devoting yourself to someone, something, or others is the essence of love. Through devotion, you embody a higher level of love, compassion, and other positive virtues. Devotion is love, loyalty, and care unto someone or something.

Practice: Reflect on the following questions below and practice devoting yourself to someone, something, or a humanitarian cause that you care about.

  • Someone: Who would you like to devote yourself to in thought, emotion, and action? How would you like to express greater love, loyalty, and care for that person?

  • Something: What activity would you like to devote yourself to in order to increase the love and compassion on the planet?

  • Humanitarian Cause: What humanitarian cause would you like to devote yourself to, and why?

L-Love Languages

Love has many languages. Learning how you like to express love, and how others around you like to express love is the key to giving love that is special and unique for the individual person.

Practice: Take the Love Language Quiz to discover how you like to express love.
Practice: Ask the people around you and in your relationships: “How do you like to express love? How do you like to receive love?” By learning about other people’s love languages, you yourself can become a better giver. Once you learn about how others like to receive love, practice giving them love in those ways.

O-Offering Something To Someone

Love is an offering of the heart. What would you like to offer others as an expression of your love?

Practice: Pick a type of love offering from the list below that you’d like to give someone on Valentine’s Day, and then share it with them selflessly.

  • Physical Offerings: time, energy, effort, financial resources, services

  • Mental Offerings: knowledge, wisdom, listening, truth, ideas, communication

  • Emotional Offerings: love, understanding, empathy, happiness, care

V-Vow To Love More

Living with love is truly living. By making a conscious vow to yourself to love yourself and others more, you open your heart up to giving and receiving greater love.
Practice: Make the conscious vow right now to give more love to yourself and others in physical, mental, emotional, and practical ways.

E-Express Love Through Creativity

Love is creativity, creativity is love. Love creates to spread more beauty, harmony, joy, balance, and celebration. Expressing love through creative mediums allows both you and others to experience the glory of love.

Practice: Practice expressing love through Creative Mediums. Pick a creative medium of your choosing, and practice expressing love and sharing it with others either in-person or online.
