About the Event

The Compassion Works Luncheon is an event that recognizes people in Arkansas for their commitment to social justice, philanthropy, and compassion. This event brings together unassuming volunteers and changemakers alike, bridging the power structures in order to best serve people in need. Proceeds from the event benefit the meditation, yoga, and psychoeducational classes at various prison facilities around the state, provided by Compassion Works for All staff and volunteers.

The Anna M Cox Compassionate Service award honors one or more individuals who have demonstrated compassionate volunteerism and philanthropy. Anna Cox began volunteering in prisons with men on death row in 1993. Her work blossomed into in-prison programming, a newsletter with a worldwide prison readership, and has touched the lives of thousands of men and women behind bars.

This year’s award recipients for the Anna M. Cox Compassionate Service Award, Dr. Sara Tariq; Compassionate Activist, Kaleem Nazeem; Volunteer of the Year, Cliff Plegge; and Compassionate Corrections Professional, Sheriff Eric Higgins.
